Concealed Carry Clothiers was started in 1997 by my brother, Walt, and
myself. Walt was teaching handgun safety classes through his local police
department and called and asked me if I could make a Vest for him that would
allow him to discreetly and safely carry his waist mounted holster with gun.
After going back and forth over the details of inside and outside the
waistband holsters, shoulder holsters, needed pockets - stiff enough to
provide for a clean sweep to his gun - it dawned on both of us that if he
had this need then there were probably a bunch of folk who also did.
What we decided to develop were a few Vest styles that would allow both men
and women to tastefully and discreetly carry while moving about in public.
The emphasis was still on waist mounted holsters. The need for a 'clean
sweep' using our lightweight fabric, meant introducing canvas lining to our
outside pockets.
The Internal Pocket System just kind of developed after we realized how many
different items we could carry in the pockets - if those items were held
upright, accessible, and out of the way of all the other items one needs and
wants to carry. By using Velcro as the attachment medium in the rugged
canvas lined front pockets, the Vests could still be machine washed and
dried which is a really important feature to a daily wearer.
The Gun Belts just were the next evolution of wanting to carry needed items
securely. It's interesting to note that once we started working on this I
realized that a man's belt is like a woman's pocketbook...it must carry a
lot of stuff securely. From cell phones, to pagers, to OC spray, to
holsters...it's a very important piece of equipment. But, to us, what
became most important was to create a belt that even a trained observer
would not recognize as a 'gun belt'. By thinning down the latch and buckle
area and only doubling up the thickness where you need the strength and
stability to hold your equipment - it's invisible as a Gun Belt.
So, that's how it happened. Walt had the need, the gun experiences to draw
on for design creation, and the critical eye to comment on detail, style,
and invisibility. Luckily, I had the design, pattern, and sewing experience
and lots of time working with horses and bridle and harness repair and
buckle replacement.
From the start, we both have been dedicated to making the best products,
with the best materials, at the best price. We provide excellent customer
service, meeting individual needs for custom work and design. So coming from
Walt and I and all the folk who work for Concealed Carry Clothiers - we
thank you for being our customer.
